Bringing home a new baby is one of the most beautiful—and exhausting—seasons of life. The last thing I want is for your photography session to feel like another thing to stress about.
The good news? Preparing for your newborn session is much simpler than you might think.
Here's everything you need to know before I arrive.
You Don't Need a Picture-Perfect Home
Let's start with the biggest one.
Please don't stress about having a spotless house.
I know you've just welcomed a tiny human into the world. Sleep is limited, laundry piles up, and dishes happen. I promise I'm not coming to judge your home.
All we need are a few areas with beautiful natural light. I'll happily move a blanket, a basket of toys, or a laundry hamper if needed, and we'll put everything right back when we're finished.
My focus is on your family—not whether the kitchen is perfectly clean.
Feed Baby Right Before the Session
If possible, try to feed your baby just before I arrive or as soon as I get everything set up.
A full tummy helps babies feel sleepy and content, making it easier to capture those sweet curled-up poses.
If baby needs extra feeding breaks during the session, that's completely normal. We always follow baby's lead.
Dress Baby in Something Easy to Remove
Loose sleepers or zip-up pajamas work wonderfully.
They make outfit changes easier and help avoid marks on baby's skin before we begin photographing.
Don't worry about choosing elaborate outfits—I'll bring wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, and other newborn accessories for posed images.
Keep Your Home Warm
Newborns love being warm, especially if they'll be wrapped or photographed without much clothing.
If you're comfortable turning the heat up a few degrees about 30 minutes before I arrive, baby will stay much happier during the session.
You may get a little warm... but I promise it's worth it!
What Should Parents Wear?
Keep clothing simple and timeless.
Soft neutral colors like creams, whites, beige, light gray, muted greens, dusty blues, or soft earth tones photograph beautifully.
Avoid bright neon colors, large logos, and busy patterns that can distract from your sweet new baby.
The goal is for the focus to stay on your connection as a family.
